Hello Everyone, I would like to introduce myself for those who do not know me. My name is Trevor Snyder and I will be the KPRFC Minors Minister for the 2024 season. I am excited to take on the roll for the 2024 season as we look to try to give you and your children the best possible experience.
This year we will not only be focused on growing your rugby players athleticism, understanding and skills of the game of rugby, but I want make a point of emphasis on making the KPRFC Minors rugby players and families feel more like a community, instead of individual age groups. I am committed to getting your children as much practice and playing time as possible, so in doing that we are looking at a minimum of two days of rugby per week for the season. I realize that life is busy so we will be practicing 2 times per week on weeks we don’t have festivals and the weeks we do have festivals we would only practice the one night.
Practices will be Wednesday at 6pm and Saturdays at 10am. Although the schedule is not yet finalized it does look like we will be attending 7-9 festivals, including our own Sat July 13th. There will be weekends where we have two festivals to attend on both the Saturday and Sunday.
I am still looking at options for one over night festival for the entire Minors age groups, but it depends on when the festivals are finalized. We are looking for coaches for some of the age groups, so if you are interested please reach out to me and I will let you know of the requirements so we can get you started ASAP.
There is a FREE try rugby day that has been planned for Sun April 28th. KPRFC Minors groups U6/U8/U10/U12 will be from 12-2PM and the Jr Program will be from 2-4.
Age Groups: U6 (introduction/flag) 2018 or later
U8 – (flag) 2016-2017
U10 – (flag) 2014-2015
U12 – (intro-to-tackle). 2012-2013
There will be no festivals for the U6 age group this year and the price of registration will reflect that. If you have a U6 athlete who would like to participate as a U8 player they must first be evaluated by the coaches and I to ensure the athlete can follow instructions, and be coached sufficiently compared to the age group as to not monopolize the coaches time.
It is likely there will be 20-30 athletes in each age group so it’s not fair to the coaches or other players for an athlete playing up an age group and take extra focus from the group.
If it’s deemed that your athlete is “ready” to play with the age group above you will be required to pay the U8-U12 rate.
The same process will happen for each age group if your athlete wishes to play up an age category. If you have a U10 born in 2014 who would like to play up an age category in to tackle you must there is a process to do so including obtaining a note from a doctor or a physiotherapist and an assessment from one of our level 2 coaches. If you have an athlete who requires any considerations please let me know so we can inform the coaches to assist your athlete the best we can and make their experience as enjoyable as possible.
Rugby is an inclusive game and we want everyone to feel welcomed. Thank you, and please feel free to message me with any question/concerns or ideas for this upcoming season. I look forward to a great year of rugby.
